Look Who's Coming!

Kathleen Flaherty
Thursday, January 21, 2010,
7:00 pm meeting of WHAL
Meeting location and directions

The West Hills Art League welcomes Kathleen Flaherty, our January demonstrator.

Kathleen has spent twenty years developing and evolving her painting style and subject matter. Well versed in many mediums and subjects, she uses the peony flower as her main inspiration to express her style and imagination.

Not limited to one flower, she has used Jasmine and Lotuses, drawing out the inner light of the bloom. Kathleen also has passion for painting tomatoes and other vegetation. Expanding the images on large canvas brings a dramatic element to her work.

Ask not what your art league can do for you; but what you can do for your art league, namely fill the open position of Membership Director.

Relative to some of the other board positions this one is not time consuming. It does require access to email, access to the Internet and rudimentary knowledge of Excel.

Some of the tasks performed by the membership director:
  • Periodically check the league’s PO box in Moon Township, more frequently during the annual membership drive (September and October.)
  • Attend monthly member meetings and any board meetings with some consistency.
  • Maintain membership directory (an Excel spreadsheet) and periodically distribute to the board members.
  • Maintain an email mailing list at our web hosting site. (Other than access to the Internet, no other resources or skills are required.)
  • Log and forward membership fees to the treasurer.
  • Send welcome emails to new members.
  • Renew lease for PO box twice per year (using WHAL funds)

If you are interested in volunteering to fill this position, contact Kim or Cindy

Your WHAL webmaster offers three websites of interest this month.

This website offers artists a new venue for selling their art. The webmaster has not personally bought or sold art via this website so please do not consider this an endorsement. At the very least, it's interesting to explore the portfolios of such a variety of artists.

The following two links are about pan pastels. The first link, in particular, offers a demonstration using this medium. Those who might have sworn off pastels because of their dusty property might find the pan version particularly interesting. It's a longer clip (20 minutes) but worth it. Settle in with a cup of coffee, or a little vino, and enjoy the show:
