Chuck Percherke
Thursday, September 18, 2008,
7:30 pm meeting of  WHAL

Chuck is from Somerset, PA and grew up having a strong passion for drawing and painting. He moved to Pittsburgh and graduated from the Ivy School of Professional Art.  Chuck worked as an industrial display designer and record album designer before opening his own studio in downtown Pittsburgh.  He has also held a position as an instructor in the art department at the South Campus of Community College.  His diversification in the art field has also expanded to working with several local recording studios that produce music CD’s and he is also involved in web design with his brother’s computer business in Somerset, PA.

Chuck has served as Vice President and President of the Somerset County Artists Association. He is active as a member of two plein air art groups, enjoys giving and taking various painting workshops, and has juried various art shows.  One of Chuck's most memorable experiences has been to study in Lucca, Italy with John Del Monte. He accompanied Mr. Del Monte this summer during a month of living and painting in Italy.

It’s Promotion, Promotion
As you can see from his background, Chuck Percherke has a great deal of experience and insight to offer. In his demonstration he will be going over the questions you should be asking yourself before you start planning your art show. Some of the subjects he will cover include:
  • How do I promote myself and the art that I have completed?
  • Can I do it for little or no cost?
  • How do I maximize my effort for my own art shows or for group shows?

With all of the electronic and digital ways to capture and promote your art, it is a great time to be an artist. Come and learn how to take advantage of all the resources available today that help you to promote your art work.

September News:

Regular Features:
A meeting of the WHAL Board was held at Elene Page’s house in August. During the meeting Kim Iyer agreed to stay on as president for this year. This gives the league some time to find a replacement for her. We encourage WHAL members to consider contributing back to the organization by volunteering to serve as a board member. The league can not exist without its members contributing their services. Kim has generously agreed to mentor anyone interested in the position and “take them under her wing” for the year to facilitate an easier transition.

Juried Art Show

Lillian Gordon is the Featured Artist for the Eleventh Annual Juried Art Show sponsored by the Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church which will be held from October 9th to 26th.

Lillian is a long time WHAL member and also a member of Beaver Valley Artists, the Big Beaver Ladies Art Group, and also the Wednesday Evening Artist Group.

Lillian states in her bio:
“I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember.  My husband, Bill purchased my first set of oil paints and that set me off on a great journey exploring art and meeting fellow artists.

My family and friends have been very supportive of my art.  This has allowed me the pleasure of painting in Monet’s gardens in Giverny, France and getting together with a group of artist friends that meet at the Outer Banks of North Carolina for over 20 years, with Maria Lestyan giving the art instruction.

Along with various workshops, I have also had instruction provided by Jim Sulkowski in his studio in Canonsburg.  I am pleased to be able to share my art with everyone and hope to be painting for many more years to come."

There is still time to enter the show. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $5.00 per art work due at the time of registration.  Each artist is allowed up to four entries.  Please contact Celia McKim at 724-827-2348 or the church office at 724-846-2899 for the entry form or more information.

WHAL launched its new Internet Forum
at the end of the 2007/08 season.

What is a forum? It's a discussion area on a website. You might also have heard them referred to as message boards, discussion groups, or bulletin boards. It is a virtual meeting place and WHAL's is hosted by Yahoo. Members who join the forum can post topics or questions for our members to discuss. They can read other members' posts and respond to them as well. All recent suggestions submitted by our members are posted in our forum, for example.

Want to join in? Check out this link in our website for more information: WHAL Forum
