Demonstrator Corner
Look Who’s Coming!
WHAL has a great demonstrator for our next meeting and that wonderful demonstrator will be our own Dianne Bauman . Dianne is an art teacher at Forest Grove Elementary School in the Montour School District.  She has been an artist all of her life, but started studying painting seriously over the past 20 years exploring and studying different types of art formally and informally. As a teacher, Dianne values learning and has studied with various masters.  One of her favorites is Jim Sulkowski, famous for his classic old world masters painting style.  Another favorite artist that Dianne has studied with is the renowned James Douglas Adams known for his figure and portrait work.

Her subject matter is broad, ranging from still life to abstract.  She has worked hard to merge all of her knowledge into a personal style. Dianne’s love of gardening can be felt in her marvelously rendered floral still life paintings.  Her free spirit can be seen in her bold and colorful abstracts.  Her newest art adventure is making masks.  Her interest in masks came after seeing an artist in Italy making a mask from leather.  Dianne used that idea as a catalyst for her own masks using canvas, batik, clay, handmade papers and other various materials.

Dianne’s artwork has been in local as well as national art shows winning numerous awards

including "Best of Show".  Her artistic knowledge and skill continues to grow.  In Dianne’s own words, "Being able to paint...is a gift.  The ability to create evokes in me a closeness to God.  ART IS EVERYTHING!!!”  Come to the meeting and feast your eyes and feed your artistic soul by sharing in the artistic experience on Thursday, October, 18,

at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Center of the Sharon Community Presbyterian Church.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!
WHAL MEETING DATE REMAINS the THIRD THURSDAY of the MONTH
The third Thursday of the month will continue to be the designated the WHAL meeting date.   There was some discussion to changing the date but because of various scheduling conflicts it was determined that the meeting date will continue as it has always been, the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m.  WHAL would like to thank those that worked on researching the possibilities and especially Nancy Bush for checking with Sharon Community Presbyterian Church.  Their work is greatly appreciated.

Autumn Festival Update
Thanks to all the WHAL member-volunteers for coming out and giving a hand on what turned out to be a glorious summer day for the Autumn Festival at Robin Hill.  Special thanks to Elene Page’s 12 year old granddaughter for helping out. The weather was the hit of the festival as temperatures rose to the mid 80’s and patrons had visions of ice cones instead of hot apple cider.  The turn out was great and a good time was had by all.

Member Bio’s

WHAL welcomes C. Keith Jones as a new member.  Keith began painting in 1968 as a hobby while stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam.

Given as gifts, the appreciation and recognition of his talent encouraged him to continue studying and painting.

After discharge, Keith studied with the Art Institute Schools of Minneapolis, Minnesota, expanding his skill in oils and working with other mediums.  Initially most of his work was given to family and friends, but others soon began requesting specific paintings.  A blue ribbon in a local fair competition and write-up in his company employee newspaper gave him the exposure needed for a manageable second career.

For more than thirty years, Keith has almost exclusively painted commissioned works, specializing in “individualized” art.  Consulting with a client before a painting is started encouraged expression of ideas, possibilities of color, design, shape and realistic expectations for both artist and client. He realized that many people are intimidated by the art world, even though they are eager to have fine art in their homes.  Keith notes that, “Allowing clients to participate in the creative process challenges me to capture their vision and make it a reality”.  In collections throughout the United States, his paintings   include landscapes, seascapes, portraits, waterfowl, animals and still-life works.

Recently, Keith has completed a number of works available to the general public.  He has taken the accumulation of experiences and skills developed throughout his career and incorporated these into a dynamic, realistic representation of Western Pennsylvania. Featuring oils, watercolors and acrylics, this new collection demonstrates his versatility across a variety of subjects.  WHAL is proud to have Keith as a member.
