Look Who’s Coming!

Thursday, November 15, 2007, is the date of the next WHAL meeting. We are honored to have as the guest presenter for the evening Bill Vrscak. Mr. Vrscak is a free-lance artist/illustrator and signature member of the American Watercolor Society. He is a realist painter whose work reflects a strong sense of freshness and simplicity, consistent with his attitude that "the simplest statements make the most impact." A frequent national award winner, his work is widely published. Vrscak studied painting and design at the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh and currently teaches painting workshops throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. Vrscak will be doing a watercolor landscape for the demonstration.

Aqueous Open!

Pittsburgh Watercolor Society’s 61st Annual International Juried Show

The Pittsburgh Watercolor Society’s Annual International Juried Show, the 61st Aqueous Open, will be located at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

The show's opening is on Friday, November 16th at 5:30 pm - 8:0 pm. and will run through January 27th, 2008. The show includes 60 watercolor paintings. Thirty five of the painters are from 22 states and one painter is from India. Some nationally known painters include Al Zeries from New York and John Salminen from Minnesota. Frank Webb, our local internationally known painter is included as well as Charles Pitcher, William Vrscak, Ron Thurston, Don Nelson, and Jeannie McGuire.

Eric Weigardt, the juror, is from Washington state. He is a member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America, as well as many other professional societies. He is the author of the book Watercolor Free and Easy. Eric Wiegardt will be offering a workshop Nov. 5 - 9 at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. A few spaces are still available. Welcome New Chairwoman!

I'd like to take a moment to introduce you to our new chairwoman for the Executive Venue Board. Jan Ryan has graciously accepted the position of chairwoman for the Executive Venue Board and will be taking over the coordination of all exhibit events.

Jan and her husband Gordon Ryan are new members this year. We are very pleased Jan has accepted this position and am confident she will outperform any expectations! She comes to us well equipped to handle this task!
