An interesting fact about Nancy is that she was a co-founder in the fall of 1967 of West Hills Art League, and has been an intrinsic part of the league and its growth ever since.

Nancy Bush, Thelma Fielder, and Nancy Gorr  felt that there was a lack of something for the artist, both amateur and professional, in the districts west of the city of Pittsburgh.

Always industrious and creative, when not teaching you could find Nancy at any of the art fairs in and around our area busy putting her personal touch to her wonderful “whimsy” watercolors and even painting faces at festivals to help raise funds.

This is the same Nancy Bush that has won extensive awards that include the Golden Sable Awards, Penn State University Purchase Prize, Pittsburgh Society of Artists awards, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Deitch Award, West Hills Art League Shows, Pittsburgh Watercolor Society awards, Waterworks Show awards, North Hills Regional Juried Shows, and the International Society of Experimental Artists Merit Award.

Along with her many awards, Nancy’s work has also been published.  Her painting “Ripples on the Pond,” a mixed media painting, was featured in “Creative Watercolor-Step by Step” by Mary Anne Beckwith, Rockport Publishers in 1996.

“Come help us form an art league…” was the message inside the invitations they sent to various local artists and the first meeting took place at the home of Mrs. Fielder, where about twenty-five interested persons took part in laying the foundation for the group. It was at this first meeting that the emblem, designed by Nancy and printed on the front of the original invitation, was accepted. Since then, Nancy added color to the WHAL logo and it makes an impressive display on cards, letterheads, websites, and any other media to which it is applied.

Another aspect of Nancy’s talent in the arts is that she has been a practicing actress and can be seen occasionally in a TV commercial.  She also is blessed with a beautiful voice and is a member of her church choir.

Truly, there is no end to the talents that Nancy has been gifted with and has generously given back to the art community in her tireless dedication to artists and the arts.
