Artist's Statement

Looking back at my early creative years my artwork was pretty monochromatic.  My interests centered around pencil & charcoal drawings, and black & white photography. After receiving a degree in Photography I worked at a local newspaper designing advertisements – more black and white.

It was much later in life that I discovered the world of color in oil painting, and I continue to explore it to this day. Maybe the lack of color in my earlier years explains my use of such vibrant colors now!

Biography

Kristine McCabe is a self-taught artist who enjoys being challenged and creative. She has a unique perspective on art, which is obvious in her latest creations called ‘Crooked Canvases’ .

“This idea actually came to me while I was watching television one night. The show that I was watching had a painting in the background that was hanging on the wall crooked and I wondered if it was supposed to be that way, or if it was an oversight. I kept watching for them to show it again, but they didn’t. But I thought, ‘What a great idea – to have a real painting hang on the wall crooked, spilling its contents!’”

Trying to squeeze art into our busy lifestyles can be tricky. Kristine knows this first hand, being the working mom of a young child.  For instance, she loves the look of those handmade scrapbook pages, but seldom has the time to sit and stencil, clip, cut and glue all of the little pieces to make each page look nice. This was Kristine’s inspiration for her ‘Simple Scrapbooking’ pages.

She believes that art can be enjoyed in numerous ways.  There are no limits - only the limits that you put on yourself and your imagination.
