Artist's Statement
Picking up a paintbrush or pencil allows me a moment to disconnect from the hectic pace of the world we live in. In that moment while laying down paint on canvas or bringing a sketch to life with a softer, darker pencil, I am renewed and at peace. When a drawing or painting is going right I find myself relaxed and focused, allowing the image to come to life.
Biography
Kim Stewart is a self-taught artist developing technique through books and artist demonstrations. Some of her artistic talent comes naturally from her father who was a commercial artist and always nearby to give advice and guidance. His gift has been passed down thru his children and grandchildren.
Photography is an additional interest of Kim’s and most of her art is composed from photographic reference – sometimes utilizing 3 or more photos to compose a piece. You’ll notice many of her works reflect a love for the outdoors, nostalgia and her gardens.
A fellow artist many years ago told her to “find her voice”. At the time she didn’t understand this simple yet important advice but smiling now realizes she’s developed her own recognizable style of artistic interpretation – she finally found her voice.
